Our Craftsmanship

Since the very first journey that Joe and Christine McLaughlin took across Asia in 1969, Libra Interiors has been focused on bringing the very highest quality furniture and accessories to your home.

Our buyers travel to many places, near and far, to find the most unique and distinctive pieces. Many our products are handcrafted in local communities, using traditional techniques that have been handed down for generations.

From the latest design shows in Hong Kong to antiques markets in Rajasthan, our team are determined to find those special things that give your home a wow-factor.

Traditional Skills

Many of our products are made by skilled craftspeople in countries including Turkey and India. For example, much of our collection of rugs comes from gifted crafters near Delhi, using traditional weaving techniques unique to that region. This includes using hand-spun yarns and manual pit looms, which require a high level of skill to use – skills that have too often been lost in a world of mass manufacturing and which are highly environmentally friendly.

Hand-carved materials and one-of-a-kind design means that our products we invest time in making every individual piece. For example, our tables can often take two experienced carvers a week to create. By supporting the skills and livelihoods of communities across the world, we celebrate the craftsmanship that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Much of our product range is hand-crafted, using natural materials such as wool, stone and wood, along with recycled materials, such as recycled denim and plastic in our fabrics and upholstered products. The manufacturing process for these pieces is often done manually and without electrified machinery, making Libra items a more sustainable option than mass-produced ranges you will find with other brands.

Supporting Communities

Libra works with many smaller designers, studios and maker communities around the world.  As a family business and a responsible brand, we treat our suppliers with respect, empathy, care and fairness.

As such, we expect all of our suppliers to be socially and environmentally conscious, ensuring that working conditions always meet best practice. Child labour is strictly forbidden in all of our maker communities, health and safety regulations must be adhered to, and environmental policies must meet stringent UK standards.

We strongly believe in supporting and protecting craft skills. That’s why every Libra product is made to the very highest standards, using traditional techniques and finishing touches to make every item unique.

Ethical Homewares

We strongly believe in supporting and protecting craft skills. That’s why every Libra product is made to the very highest standards, using traditional techniques and finishing touches to make every item unique.

We are proud members of the ethical trade membership organisation Sedex, ensuring that we and our suppliers always operate sustainably and responsibly. This means protecting our maker communities and upholding ethical working conditions throughout our supply chain.

We also put sustainability high on our list of values. This means that all timber used in Libra products meets EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) no. 995/2010 + 607/2012, upholding legal, responsible, high-quality standards.

Every product we sell is meticulously and stringently tested to exacting British standards, no matter what the price point. This means you can be assured that your purchases meet all the appropriate quality standards.
