Top Tips To Create The Perfect Christmas Table

No matter what Christmas 2020 may look like, put food and family at the heart of your festivities this year. From drinks stations and candles, to sparkling accessories and elegant tableware, it’s the perfect occasion to go ‘all out’ on decorations, even if there are less guests.

We’ve rounded up some of our top tips for creating a memorable Christmas tablescape.

1 / Create a sense of occasion

The key to any great Christmas table is to create a sense of occasion. We’ve spent a lot of time in our homes this year so it’s important that it doesn’t just feel like any other meal. Draw your guests to the table with an alluring pull of festive shades and finishes. Decorate the room and dress the table with simple dinnerware, a sparkling runner, coasters and candlelights.

2 / Choose a colour palette

Choosing warm and alluring colours will give your table a sense of festivity. Christmas dinner is a highlight for most of us so we want to ensure your table is a big part of the celebrations.

A strong tonal colour palette such as rich mulberry, prussian blues or golds can often work beautifully with a mix of decorations in different styles but similar shades will look sophisticated and characterful.

3 / Play with different heights

Height is so important when it comes to table styling and incorporating an array of different heights will help to create a gorgeously layered look. Always start with the tallest items first and then style shorter items around them to ensure that everything feels balanced. Tall candle sticks or vases will add instant drama, whereas lower hurricanes and tealight holders will bring a soft, warming glow.

If you’re short on surface space, don’t forget to look up. A branch or bar suspended above the table can be adorned with glass baubles, evergreen foliage, and twinkling lights to create a statement installation that is guaranteed to be a talking point.

4 / Add foliage and flowers

Don’t underestimate the power of flowers and foliage, and they don’t have to be overly festive to still make the right impression. Hyacinths are in abundance right now and can be planted into elegant bowls and topped with moss to create a natural centre piece that will smell just as good as it looks. Evergreen foliage, such as ivy and laurel can be gathered from the garden looks great when laid down the centre of the table, with baubles and tealights nestled amongst the leaves.

Faux foliage and berries are also an excellent option and sustainable too, as they can be used year after year.
